Visiting Artist Series
February 17, 2011

Jenny Pohlman & Sabrina Knowles, 2009 Saxe Fellowship Award Winners;  Glassblowing

Picture
(t) Jenny Pohlman
(b) Sabrina Knowles
From their earliest collaborative efforts Knowles and Pohlman have explored the inherent physical properties of glass - its fluidity, plasticity and strength. In this three day workshop, these master craftswomen demonstrated their forms, designed and evolved through their 19-year collaboration, solid and blown, with narrative explanation of everything from fundamentals to challenging physics. The artists encouraged you to arrive day-one with a line drawing of your desired form and they offered insights of how to achieve it during their demos.
Sabrina Knowles and Jenny Pohlman are in their 19th year of collaboration.  Since 1997 they have journeyed extensively through Africa and Southeast Asia seeking our common humanity.  They have been affiliated with Pilchuck Glass School and Pratt Fine Arts Center, where they have sponsored the Pohlman Knowles High School Scholarship since 2000, throughout their careers and have received numerous scholarships and awards for their artistic and teaching efforts.  In 2009 and 2010 they were nominated for the prestigious Neddy Award.  They joined the board of trustees of the Bellevue Arts Museum in 2009.
