BAGI Great Glass Auction 2012 - Call for Artwork
Dear Artist,
We are excited to announce the call for artists for the Bay Area Glass Institute’s Great Glass Auction Gala 2012. The auction will take place on March 24, 2012 and attract many of the leading collectors in San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
Please click on this link to let us know if you can participate.
Why Donate to the BAGI Auction?
We know you are frequently asked to contribute your artwork to charitable programs and events. BAGI makes an impact by bringing artists and patrons together (like this visit from Michael Menconi and Charlie Lowrie) and by teaching classes to kids and adults.
The Auction has been an essential part of our fundraising and outreach effort for the past ten years. Over 120 people attended the 2011 event, raising over $140,000. The event contributes one-quarter of our operating budget and allows us to continue our Visiting Artist Program, bringing outstanding artists to the facility to teach local artists and meet patrons. It also supports a student scholarship to attend each of BAGI's Visiting Artist master classes.
In addition to supporting glass education, we offer participating artists the following benefits:
Saxe Fellowship at BAGI Award ($2,000 cash prize and a spot in the Visiting Artist Series)
BAGI will again offer the Saxe Fellowship Award which includes a $2,000 cash prize and a funded invitation to come to BAGI as part of our Visiting Artist Series. Past Fellowship winners include Melissa and Keith Bispo, Randy Walker, Richard Royal, Sabrina Knowles and Jenny Pohlman, and Michael Janis. Cassandra Straubing won the 2011 award for her piece, “The Necessity of Dairyman.”
People’s Choice Award ($1,000 cash prize and a spot in the Visiting Artist Series)
Gala attendees choose “The People’s Choice” artist from those who are residing in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The winner receives $1,000 as well as a spot in BAGI’s Visiting Artist Series. The 2011 award was won by San Jose, California-based artist Shaun Griffiths for his piece, "Alone Together."
Key Dates and Suggestions for Donating Work
The Auction is on March 24th, 2012. For artists choosing to participate, art will need to be received by February 17st, 2012, so we have time to create the catalog and distribute it. We are happy to accept pieces after that and pieces received by March 3rd will be reviewed for the Saxe Fellowship award.
We are seeking strong, representative examples of artist’s work. Pieces of moderate scale with a retail value of $500-$8,000 have done well in previous BAGI auctions. The strength of the work and its price point guide the selection of the live auction pieces. Please call us about donating artwork valued at more than $10,000 to talk through strategies to bring the work’s full value at auction.
We sincerely hope you will decide to participate. Please click on this link to let us know if you can.
Sincerely,
Steven Aldrich Joan Phillips
